Policy and formulation

  • RDA-authorized terms are
    • female
    • male
    • not known
  • Make assumptions as to a person's gender based on given name. For example, assume that Alice is female and John is male.
  • Refrain from making assumptions about ambiguous given names (Robin, Pat, Leslie), or if you are in doubt about its gender-association in a particular language (Sille, Chunhua), and you have no other information.
  • If none of the authorized terms apply, choose a term from LCSH and identify the source in ǂ2 (375 Transgender people ǂ2 lcsh)
