Nicholas Meyer: The Adventure of the Peculiar Protocols, one of the Talks and Screenings at the Folger, was held in the historic Paster Reading Room on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 6:30pm.

At this free event, author Nicholas Meyer read and discussed his new book, The Adventure of the Peculiar Protocols (released October 15, 2019).

With his international bestseller, The Seven Per-Cent Solution, award-winning author, screenwriter, and film director Nicholas Meyer changed the popular conception of Sherlock Holmes by providing modern fans with a previously unpublished case, as recorded by Dr. John H. Watson, that portrayed the brilliant detective tempered with flaws and addictions. Now Meyer returns with The Adventure of the Peculiar Protocols, another new case from Watson’s journal—in which Holmes and Watson are investigating the origins of a 20th-century atrocity.

Audiences were invited to hear about the author’s first experiences reading the tales of the Great Detective, what he thinks about the enduring preoccupation with all things Sherlock, his fascination with forgery, the real-life inspirations for the novel, and how the Protocols relate during a time of prevailing “fake news."

Copies of The Adventure of the Peculiar Protocols were available for purchase and signing at the event.
