Il Lauro Verde: The Blossoming of the Italian Baroque (2018)
Folger Consort performed Il Lauro Verde: The Blossoming of the Italian Baroque from February 23 to February 25, 2018 in the Folger's Elizabethan Theatre.
With its title “The Green Laurel” taken from a 1584 book of madrigals, this program explored the growth of Italian musical style from Renaissance to Baroque, including virtuoso instrumental versions of madrigals and the songs themselves, as well as the new monodies of Monteverdi, Francesca Caccini, and other 17th-century luminaries.
