Folger Consort performed Heavenly Revelations: Hildegard von Bingen and Medieval France on January 6 and 7, 2012.
The revelatory, soaring melodies and ecstatic poetry of Hildegard von Bingen — the 12th-century mystic, nun, and advisor to popes and emperors — were enjoyed in the grand space of the Washington National Cathedral. The Consort paired this visionary repertoire with contrasting later works — sophisticated motetes and intraicate instrumental music written and performed in the 13th century by the elite of Notre Dame Cathedral and the French court. Heavenly Revelations was performed with period strings and the renowned voices of Anonymous 4.
