The PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction has been given since 1981 to the best works of fiction published by an American citizen in a calendar year. The Award is the United States' largest peer-juried prize in the field. The 2018 Award Winner was Joan Silber for her novel, Improvement, and the finalists were Hernán Díaz, Samantha Hunt, Achy Obejas, and Jesmyn Ward. The ceremony included readings by the winner and finalists and remarks from the year's judges: Andrea Barrett, Stacey D'Erasmo, and Alex Espinoza.
Ron Charles, the editor of Book World at The Washington Post, was the MC of this year's ceremony.
