Photographing Shakespeare: The Folger Shakespeare Library, one of the Talks and Screenings at the Folger, was held in the Elizabethan Theatre on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 7:00pm.

At this event, award-winning photographer Robert Dawson and curator Ellen Manchester sat down to discuss their new book, Photographing Shakespeare: The Folger Shakespeare Library (released May 18, 2018).

For two years, Dawson and Manchester went behind the scenes of the Folger Shakespeare Library to document its diverse, lively, and sometimes surprising activities. Provided with full access, Dawson and Manchester offer a vivid look at life and work at the Folger, from its arts, outreach, teaching, and research programs to the delicate craft of book conservation. Photographing Shakespeare: The Folger Shakespeare Library also depicts topics that might seem too difficult to capture—the birth of ideas, the scope of digital research, and the human connection with Shakespeare and his works, from Macbeth to A Midsummer Night's Dream.

The talk was followed by a book-signing and light reception. Copies of Photographing Shakespeare were available for purchase at the event.
