On January 17, 2011 at 11:00am, the O.B. Hardison Poetry Series celebrated the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a combined program of dramatic readings of speeches, poetry, and an open-mic session in the The Haskell Center for Education and Public Programs. The event featured poets Carmen Calatayud, Katherine Howell, Fred Joiner, and Esther Iverem, and actors Keith Irby, Dionne Audain-Brown, and Adrienne Nelson.

The Folger also collected donations of non-perishable food items for a local Capitol Hill food pantry.
