Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech at the March on Washington. Library of Congress.

On January 15, 2018 at 11:00am, the O.B. Hardison Poetry Series celebrated the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr., and the release of a new book The Mighty Stream: Poems in Celebration of Martin Luther King edited by Carolyn Forché and Jackie Kay. The event combined dramatic readings of speeches and poetry in the Elizabethan Theatre. Poets Jericho Brown, Mark McMorris, and Lauren K. Alleyne were featured, as well as actors James Johnson, Sara Barker, and Fatima Quander.

The Folger also collected donations of non-perishable food items for a local Capitol Hill food pantry at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation.

This event was presented with assistance from the Lannan Center for Poetics and Social Practice.
