The Folger Photograph and Digital Imaging Department regularly generates lists of full-text items that have recently been digitized (thousands of individual images may also be found in LUNA). This page provides links to the images found in LUNA Insights and to their Hamnet records.

These updates will be recorded in reverse chronological order, with the most recent updates at the top. Updates are provided as they are made available.

  • Collection of copies of state papers and letters [manuscript], 1579-1607. V.b.142, 95 images. (Hamnet, LUNA) Some of the items have Suffolk connections, such as privy council letters to Suffolk justices, and possibly the collection was made by a Suffolk gentlemen interested in political news from home and abroad. Several concern Mary, Queen of Scots, the Earl of Essex and Raleigh. In various hands; probably written in Suffolk.

  • Rogers, Thomas, d. 1616. Copy of Thomas Roger’s refutation, April 29, 1598, of Nicholas Bownd’s Doctrine of the Sabbath, 1595 [manuscript], 1607? X.d.547, 11 images. (Hamnet, LUNA) Contains Roger’s unpublished epistolary essay refuting Bownd’s Doctrine of the Sabbath with detailed commentary keyed to book and page of Bownd’s work. The letter is followed by an anonymous postscript (in the same hand as the copy) claiming that when Bownd read this letter he was immediately moved to repent his opinions, a claim for which there is no evidence. The only published response to Bownd’s work by Rogers was Faith, doctrine and religion, 1607.
  • Smith family. Poetical miscellany and commonplace the Smith family [manuscript], compiled ca. 1620-ca. 1665. V.a.103, 355 images. (Hamnet, LUNA) This volume belonged to the Smith (variously Smithe and Smyth) family of Long Aston, Somersetshire. One of the poems in Part I is "On Mr. John Nycholls Vicar of Longashtoun who died ... December 21, 1622" (leaf 10). The brothers John, Hugh and Charles wrote their names in the book between 1674 and 1690. The Thomas and John Smith who appear in Part II may have been cousins from the Smith family of Hough, Cheshire. Warwick Castle MS.
  • The ceremonies for the healing of them that be diseased with the kings evil, used in the time of King Henry VII. Published by his Majesties command. 1686. 158- 632q, 15 images. (Hamnet, LUNA) Ceremony initiated by Henry VII; sometimes inserted in the prayer book, but never officially recognized by the Protestant Church.
