Made in the USA: Tina Chang and Maurice Manning (2014)

Tina Chang's poetry, with its fluid historical knowledge, and Maurice Manning's work, with its homage to the American experience, converged for one night in response to the wide-ranging art collection assembled by Duncan Phillips, the Phillips Collection founder. The O.B. Hardison Poetry Series, co-sponsored with The Phillips Collection, presented Made in the USA: Tina Chang and Maurice Manning at the Phillips Auditorium on February 27, 2014 at 6:30; tickets were $15, and Phillips Collection members were able to reserve free tickets.

Tina Chang

Tina Chang’s most recent collection of poetry is Of Gods and Strangers. She co-edited the anthology Language for a New Century: Contemporary Poetry from the Middle East, Asia and Beyond. Chang has received awards from the New York Foundation for the Arts, Poets & Writers, and the Van Lier Foundation, among others. She was elected Brooklyn Poet Laureate in 2010 and teaches at Sarah Lawrence College. Chang's book of poetry Half-Lit Houses is available online at the Folger Giftshop.

Maurice Manning

Maurice Manning is the author of The Gone and the Going Away and four previous books of poems. His book The Common Man was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. A winner of the Yale Younger Poets Prize and a Guggenheim Fellowship, he teaches at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky.
