The Folger Shakespeare Library has several different series of card catalogs. None are currently being added to or maintained, but some contain records for material not (yet) described elsewhere.

Printed books (includes atlases and maps)

All cards are located in the main card catalog room (next to the entrance to the Old Reading Room)

  • Author, title, and subject cards interfiled (some not in Hamnet)
  • Chronological, by year:
    • STC period publications
    • Wing period publications
    • English 18th century publications (many not in Hamnet)
    • Continental publications to 1800 (many not in Hamnet)
  • Continental printers to 1800, by name (many not in Hamnet)
  • Continental place of publication to 1800, by city (many not in Hamnet)
  • Former owners:
    • Main file, by name
    • Harmsworth, by STC number
  • Other:
    • Books with manuscript notes (drawer labeled "Former Owners: MSS Notes")
    • Book prices (i.e., handpress era books containing indications of how much was paid for them)
