Folger Consort performed Groves of Antiquity: Ancient Myths in Baroque Guise from October 5 to October 7, 2007. Delightful French and Italian cantatas tell tales from ancient myths about the desires, foilbles, and supernatural powers of gods and demi-gods. The Consort's performance of Groves of Antiquity, which featured Baroque instrumental music for transverse flute, violin, viola da gamba, theorbo, and harpsichord, transported listeners to Arcadian splendor with works by Vivaldi, Monteclair, Leclair, and Rameau.

Viol da gamba, detail. Claire Duggan.
