Carol Ann Duffy is a Scottish poet, writer, and playwright. Duffy often pulls upon history and myth in fresh and invigorating poetry that showcases a contemporary wit. Her collections of poetry include The Bees, Rapture, and most recent Jubilee Lines. She has also written verse for children. Her many awards include the T.S. Eliot Prize, The Lannan Literary Prize, The Costa Poetry Prize, and The Whitbread Poetry Award. She is Professor of Contemporary Poetry at Manchester Metropolitan University and was appointed Britain’s Poet Laureate in May 2009, the first female to hold the position.
