This event occurred on October 12, 2007 at 8:00 pm in the Folger's Elizabethan Theatre. Three celebrated writers explored urban landscapes of noir detective and crime novels through readings and a conversation moderated by Clarence Page.

Dennis Lehane is the author of the short story collection Coronado. His other works include: A Drink Before the War; Darkness, Take My Hand; Sacred; Gone Baby Gone; Prayers for Rain; and Shutter Island. His novel Mystic River was a finalist for the PEN/Winship Award, winner of the Anthony Award, the Barry Award for Best Novel, and the Massachusetts Book Award; and was made into an Academy Award-winning film starring Sean Penn and directed by Clint Eastwood.

George Pelecanos is an award-winning journalist and the author of 14 crime-noir novels. He won The Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Hell to Pay and Soul Circus, and the International Crime Novel of the Year award in France, Germany, and Japan for The Big Blowdown. A regular screenwriter and independent-film producer, Pelecanos won a 2005 Emmy for his writing for the HBO television series The Wire. His novel Right As Rain has been sold to Warner Brothers, and Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks selected him to write two episodes for The Pacific War, the forthcoming HBO series.

Richard Price is the author of seven novels, including the national bestsellers Freedomland, nominated for a Los Angeles Times Book Award and an Irish Times Literature Award, and Clockers, nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award. A recipient of the Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Price’s fiction, articles, and essays have appeared in Esquire, The Village Voice, Playboy, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, New York Times Book Review, and the New York Times. He has also written numerous screenplays, including Sea of Love, Ransom, and The Color of Money.
