He has received many literary awards, including the Pulitzer Prize, the Griffin Prize, a MacArthur Fellowship, and the Wallace Stevens Award from the Academy of American Poets. Of his book ''The World Doesn't End'' ''Publisher's Weekly'' wrote that "Simic is a master of the absurd and the unexpected." Simic was the Poet  Laureate of the United States from 2007-08.
