The library uses several types of barcode for circulation and inventory of collection material.

Barcode formats

  • 14 digits starting 11932: open stacks items
  • 14 digits starting 21932: readers' cards
  • 14 digits starting 31932: vault items (and some open stacks items)
  • 6 digits starting 9: containers in vault (barcoded items inside circulate separately)
  • 6 digits starting 0: shelves and racks in vault

Barcode placement

  • Open stacks items: back, lower right
  • Vault books and envelopes shelved upright: on a flag, facing back
  • Vault books shelved flat: on a flag, facing up
  • Vault folders shelved flat: front, lower left, in 'portrait' orientation
  • Pamphlet boxes: front, centered near top
  • Princeton boxes: left side, lower right, in 'portrait' orientation
  • Shelves: front edge, centered
