Policy and formulation

  • Use both the modern form of the country (e.g. "Italy") and the form of the name identified with the person, if different (e.g., "Venice (Republic : to 1797)")
  • Give place of residence in ǂe and country in ǂc even if the country is already named in the ǂe, e.g. ǂc France ǂe Paris (France).
