Anthony Hecht has read for the O.B. Hardison Poetry Series on several occasions: January 1, 1986, October 22, 1987, October 26, 1990, and on December 10, 1996 for the Emily Dickinson Birthday Tribute.
Ted Hughes called Hecht "one of the most accomplished of his extremely accomplished generation." The author of seven books of poetry, including The Hard Hours, which received the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1968. He also wrote several volumes of essays and criticism, among them a book-length study of the poetry of W.H Auden called The Hidden Law. He received the Bollingen Prize in Poetry (1983), the Eugenio Montale Award (1984), and the Robert Frost Medal (2000). The Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize was established in his honor.
