The event Tracy Chevalier: Hogarth Shakespeare Reading of "New Boy" was held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 7:30 pm in the historic Paster Reading Room of the Folger Shakespeare Library as part of the Talks and Screenings at the Folger.

Launched in October of 2015, the Hogarth Shakespeare series has offered 21st century readers modern-day re-imaginings of Shakespeare’s most renowned plays, authored by writers including Jeanette Winterson, Howard Jacobson, Anne Tyler, and Margaret Atwood. On May 16, 2017, Hogarth Shakespeare released the newest installment in this celebrated series, New Boy, a re-telling of Shakespeare’s Othello by Tracy Chevalier.

At this event, the author read selections from the novel, followed by a moderated conversation with Dolen Perkins-Valdez. Perkins-Valdez is known for her novels Wench and Balm: A Novel, and her introductory essay in a recent edition of Solomon Northup’s autobiography Twelve Years a Slave. As of this event, she was a professor at American University.
