Said to be the earliest known example of someone writing out a check, making a change and initialling it, then having the check be honored by the bank. [Folger. V.b.433 v.140 no.32] Transcription: June [th]e 26, 1665 / Pray pay vnto Mr John Eaton laceman or his order the sum[m]e of twenty foure pounds & tenne shillings & for y[ou]r soe doing this shall be y[ou]r warrant coming from ---- y[ou]r assured loving freind [sic] Jo[hn] Wolstenholme. / For Mr Robert Clayton & Mr. John Morris, scriv[ene]rs neare [th]e old Exchange. pay more thirty six shillings.
