Cataloging workflows for ad hoc, preliminary, and other forms of incomplete records

Ad hoc records

New records created by a cataloger in TIND. Developed during the 2024 Barcoding Project, for materials returned from storage without existing records in the catalog.

First stage

  • Start a new record using the Cat: ad hoc record (printed text) template
  • Enter title and imprint transcription. Copy-and-paste from Connexion if available, proofreading carefully
  • If feasible, add basic carrier information in the 852$z, and other easily verifiable information (for instance, signatures and pagination of a 16-page pamphlet)
  • Optionally, take a picture of the title page and colophon and add to [DJL] OneDrive - Folger Shakespeare Library > Images > DFo-reference-images
  • Save and create item record, and add as subtask to ClickUp > Collection Description > Rare Book Cataloging > List > Ad hoc records to flesh out. Use TIND record URL, and Connexion save file number if applicable
