Folger Consort performed Ballads and Brawls for the Bard from March 9 to March 11, 2007 in the Folger's Elizabethan Theatre. Tracing the threads of music from Shakespeare's time and his plays, in their performance of Ballads and Brawls for the Bard, the Consort wove a rich tapestry of songs heard in early performances of As You Like It and The Tempest, as well as madcap masque dances, melancholy ballads, fiddle tunes, and other popular forms that were the musical warp and woof of Shakespeare's theatrical world.
